Ingredients

  • 3 cup (430 g) Frozen strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1 tablespoon Maple syrup
  • 1 Lemon juice only

Instructions

  • Put all of the ingredients into a saucepan.
  • Gently heat and keep stirring until the strawberries start to soften. Once softened, mash the strawberries down and continue to heat until it thickens.

Notes

  • Choose Ripe Strawberries: If you are going to use fresh berries, the riper the berries, the sweeter the compote .
  • Adjust Sweetness: Taste the mixture as it cooks and add more honey/maple syrup if needed. You might not want it as sweet, or you might like it sweeter.
  • Blend for Smoothness: If you prefer a smoother compote, blend it briefly before serving.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of balsamic vinegar for depth. You could add a little vanilla extract too.
